One is a 2004 E320 Wagon 4matic, 160k miles, looks pretty clean seems like a typical mall estate car, two owners. Asking 6500.

The other is a 2000 S500 with rust on the skirts, 170k miles. The air suspension is also leaky, apparently it’s fine after start up. Asking 1500 obo.

Thanks guys!

Rust = low ball till you can buy a house with the difference from the startbid and have a project!

but you’ll never stop the rust once it’s started.

Cut out the rust, replace with fresh metal. What rust?

Cost to fix the air suspension?

W220, convert to springs. Older 4matics have problems.

Avoid the second one. Sounds like a moneypit.

By that logic, don’t drive at all. Who knows, you might get a stone chip because you didn’t dodge a rock or risk having a bird shit on it with a bad stomach. You’d be surprised but destructive some bird poo is to paint.

birdshit is harmless , i’ve let sit on my car for ages , washed it off eventually , i can’t see any difference , brake fluid is what you have to worry about.

stone chips too are nothing to worry about. my car has a shitload of them.

but as for rust , it just keeps growing , unless you replace a rusty panel in it’s entirety , you’ll never stop it.

If the 4matic works, then the wagon is what I would pick. S class cars that are older and have leaky bags are certainly an issue. My biggest reasoning against the S is that its going down the slippery slope of being a maintenance nightmare. $1500? What else is about to go?

Rust though, thats the worst thing, avoid that like the plague.

I had a 2000 e320 with rust, it wasn’t too bad. Nothing started to fall apart as long as you control it.

Can you explain what happens to the older 4matics?

Something with the differential or like that. My mechanic (only German cars) advised me not to get the earlier versions of it as its a costly and common repair.

Gonna be edgy and say S500 and become Tavarish’s BFF. I’ve heard really scary stuff about older 4matic.
